SC Returns Government Plea Over Imran’s Hospital Transfer
Imran Khan Hospital Transfer: SC Returns Government Review Petition
ISLAMABAD: (Special Reporter) – The Supreme Court has returned the government’s review petition challenging its order to transfer incarcerated former prime minister Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital, after objections were raised by the court’s Registrar’s Office.
According to sources, the Registrar’s Office raised objections to the review petition filed against the Supreme Court’s August 18 order directing that Imran Khan be shifted from Adiala Jail to Shifa International Hospital for medical assessment and treatment.
The objections reportedly relate to the paper books not being complete with the review petition. The government is expected to address the objections before submitting the petition again.
Government had challenged hospital transfer order
The review petition was filed by Islamabad Chief Commissioner through the Islamabad Advocate General on Wednesday.
The government had sought a review or modification of the Supreme Court’s interim order directing Khan’s transfer to the private hospital. Officials had argued that the order should be reconsidered and that medical treatment for prisoners should generally take place at government facilities unless specialist care requires otherwise.
The Supreme Court had ordered on August 18 that Khan be moved from Adiala Jail to Shifa International Hospital for medical examination and treatment, with a medical board to assess his condition. The order was issued amid continuing concerns over his health.
Imran Khan not yet transferred
Despite the Supreme Court’s order, Imran Khan has not yet been shifted to the hospital, according to reports.
The court had directed authorities to transfer him under appropriate security arrangements, with the hospital stay linked to the court’s further proceedings.
The latest development means the government may resubmit its review petition after addressing the Registrar’s objections, potentially setting up another legal challenge over the implementation of the hospital-transfer order.
