IESCO Recovers Rs7 Billion, Intensifies Power Theft Crackdown
IESCO Takes Action Against Power Theft Across Region
Islamabad: (Finance Reporter) – Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) has intensified its crackdown against electricity theft and defaulters across its operational areas, following the directives of the federal government and Ministry of Energy (Power Division).
IESCO Chief Executive Engineer Chaudhry Khalid Mahmood said that since the launch of the anti-power theft campaign in September 2023, action has been taken against 7,073 electricity thieves, resulting in fines exceeding Rs609.1 million.
He added that police have arrested 3,299 offenders during the campaign, while more than Rs7 billion in outstanding dues have been recovered from over 232,000 consumers under the recovery drive.
Engineer Khalid Mahmood said that under the guidance of IESCO Chairman Dr Tahir Masood, the Board of Directors, and company management, a zero-tolerance policy against electricity theft and payment defaults is being implemented.
He appreciated the efforts of IESCO officers, detection teams, and recovery teams, saying their performance has strengthened the company’s operational standards.
IESCO has also completed the installation of more than 1.2 million Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) smart meters across Rawalpindi and surrounding areas. The installation of scanning meters on distribution transformers is also progressing to improve monitoring and control of electricity supply.
