US F-35B Fighter Jet Crashes in California
The aircraft is estimated to cost around $102 million per unit.
California: (News Desk) – A US Marine Corps F-35B Lightning II fighter jet crashed near Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego, California, on Thursday.
According to Marine Aircraft Group 11, the single-seat stealth fighter went down at around 10:00 a.m. local time before reaching the runway during its approach to the air station.
The US military said the pilot safely ejected from the aircraft and was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. Officials confirmed that the pilot is in stable condition and out of danger.
Following the crash, airport firefighters quickly contained the wreckage and extinguished a grass fire that broke out near the crash site.

The cause of the accident has not yet been determined. US military authorities have launched an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the crash.
The F-35B Lightning II is among the world’s most advanced fifth-generation stealth fighter jets. It is capable of short take-offs and vertical landings (STOVL), making it a key aircraft for the US Marine Corps as well as the armed forces of the United Kingdom and Italy.
