KP Chief Minister Announces August 5 PTI Rally

PESHAWAR: (Staff Reporter) – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has called on the public, particularly young people, to participate in a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) rally scheduled at the Peshawar Toll Plaza on August 5, describing the gathering as a decisive stage in the party’s protest movement.

In a message issued ahead of the event, Afridi urged supporters to raise their voices against what he described as oppression, injustice, inflation, unemployment, and lawlessness. He said important announcements would be made during the rally.

The chief minister also expressed concern over the health and detention conditions of former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi. He claimed they had not been allowed access to medical treatment under the supervision of their personal doctors and alleged that Imran Khan had been kept in isolation without regular meetings with family members, party leaders, personal physicians, or his sons.

Afridi further alleged that court orders relating to Imran Khan had not been implemented and that hearings in his legal cases had been delayed. He said he had approached the Speaker, the Prime Minister, the Chief Justice, and the Islamabad High Court seeking permission to meet the PTI founder but had not been granted access.

The chief minister maintained that after exhausting constitutional and legal avenues, peaceful protest remained the only option available. He said PTI had exercised restraint over the past two years despite restrictions on meetings with Imran Khan.

Afridi also criticised the federal government’s handling of national issues, including the economy and security, and called for constitutional solutions to the country’s challenges. He urged supporters to gather in Peshawar on August 5, saying the rally would mark a significant moment for the party’s movement.

Referring to legal proceedings against himself, Afridi said cases related to the May 9 events had been reopened despite his acquittal and that additional hearings had been scheduled for July 28 and 29. He reiterated his commitment to PTI and said he would not abandon the party’s political ideology.
