Pakistan – (Staff Correspondent/Web Desk) – Pakistan has taken a major step forward with the launch of its new Overseas Pakistanis rehabilitation policy, part of the country’s first-ever National Immigration Policy 2026. The move marks a turning point in how the government plans to support citizens working abroad and those coming back home.
The policy was officially rolled out by Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis, Chaudhry Salik Hussain. He called it a timely and forward-thinking step that matches today’s fast-changing job markets around the world.
This is the first time Pakistan has introduced a full, structured plan to manage migration. The goal is simple. Help people migrate the right way, prepare them with useful skills, and support those who return after years of working overseas.
According to officials from the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis, the policy covers several key areas. These include promoting legal and organized migration, training skilled workers to meet global job demands, and helping returning citizens settle back into everyday life.
Minister Salik Hussain said the policy was designed with real people in mind. It looks out for overseas Pakistanis already working abroad, those planning to leave soon, and families welcoming loved ones back home.
He added that the framework also focuses on giving Pakistani workers the right training. This way, they can compete confidently in international job markets.
The minister also shared plans to form a special committee. Its job will be to recognize and reward the hard work of overseas Pakistanis who have contributed to the country’s economy over the years.
Wider Consultation Behind the Plan
Federal Secretary Muhammad Aslam Chaudhry explained that this policy did not come together overnight. It was shaped through detailed discussions involving the federal government, provincial authorities, and other important stakeholders.
He noted that the plan reflects how global labor markets are shifting. It also addresses nearly every major issue linked to migration today.
For years, most Pakistani workers have headed to Gulf countries for jobs. That is not changing anytime soon. However, the government now wants to explore fresh opportunities as well.
New markets, including parts of Latin America, are being considered. This could open doors for Pakistani workers who are looking for something beyond the usual options.
Alongside this, the policy also aims to prepare young Pakistanis with practical, market-ready skills. This will help them stand out when applying for jobs internationally.
Helping Workers Return Home Smoothly
Perhaps the most meaningful part of this policy is its focus on rehabilitation. Many overseas workers return home after years abroad, often struggling to readjust to life in Pakistan.
The new framework aims to change that. It offers structured support to help returning workers reconnect with their communities. Their experience and hard-earned skills will also be formally recognized.
