Freight Train Derailed Matiari, Disrupts Sindh Railway Traffic

KARACHI – (Staff Reporter/Web Desk) – A major freight train derailed Matiari early Sunday, throwing rail traffic across Sindh into chaos. Seventeen wagons of the goods train went off track near Wahab Shah railway station, forcing officials to shut down both up and down lines.

Pakistan Railways confirmed the accident took place while a coal hopper train was moving from Karachi toward Yousafwala. The Wahab Shah railway station derailment damaged the track at multiple points, making it hard for repair teams to move quickly.

Officials said the affected route could stay closed for close to 24 hours. Two relief trains, along with railway engineers, reached the site soon after the accident. Their main task is to clear the broken wagons and fix the damaged sections of track.

Thankfully, no injuries or deaths were reported in the incident. This is a small relief for passengers and railway staff, even though the delay has caused widespread disruption.

Passenger Trains Stuck at Different Stations

Several passenger trains were held at various stations because of the derailment. The Karakoram Express stopped at Hyderabad, while the Allama Iqbal Express was halted at Kotri. Landhi station became a temporary stop for the Pakistan Express.

The Tezgam Express stayed parked at Drigh Road station. Meanwhile, both the Millat Express and Fareed Express were stopped at Cantt station until further notice.

Earlier reports confirmed that trains were also stopped at Tando Adam, Hyderabad, Karachi, and Rohri. This shows just how far the impact of the freight train derailed Matiari incident spread across the province.

Officials Respond to the Situation

Farman Ghani, the Railways Sukkur Divisional Superintendent, shared an update on the ongoing repair work. He said relief trains from Rohri and Kotri were being sent straight to the accident site to speed up the process.

Ghani explained that a large part of the track was damaged, so full restoration will take time. He added that teams are working hard to clear both tracks and get train service moving again as soon as possible.

For now, thousands of passengers across Sindh are left waiting. Many are checking updates on when their trains will resume normal schedules. Railway staff on the ground are trying their best to fix the damage quickly and safely.

This derailment is a reminder of how a single accident can affect an entire transport network. As repair work continues, more updates are expected from Pakistan Railways in the coming hours.
