NEW YORK: (Sports Desk) – FIFA President Gianni Infantino has said the success of the FIFA World Cup 2026, jointly hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States, has created significant new investment opportunities for global football.
Addressing representatives of FIFA’s 211 member associations in New York ahead of the World Cup final, Infantino said FIFA is a non-profit organisation and reinvests the revenue generated from its tournaments into football development programmes worldwide.
He said FIFA’s revenue for the 2023-2026 financial cycle is expected to surpass $15 billion, calling it a historic achievement that reflects the continued growth and global appeal of football.
According to Infantino, the commercial success of the 2026 World Cup has created new financial opportunities that will allow FIFA to increase support for member associations and expand development initiatives across different regions.
The FIFA president highlighted the connection between sporting quality and financial growth, saying that strong decisions and improvements on the field are essential to driving commercial success beyond the pitch.
Infantino also announced that FIFA plans to raise funding for its 2027-2030 development programme to $2.7 billion, which is almost eight times higher than the initial investment when the programme was introduced.
He added that FIFA has already invested $5.1 billion in football development projects during his presidency and pledged to continue increasing support for the growth of the sport worldwide.
