Karachi: (Staff Reporter) – Measles has claimed the lives of at least 53 children in Sindh so far this year, according to official data released by the Sindh Health Department, raising concerns over the continued spread of the highly contagious viral disease.
The department reported that 102 measles-related deaths have been recorded across Pakistan during the first 26 weeks of 2026.
In Sindh alone, 7,105 suspected measles cases were reported, of which 2,280 were confirmed through laboratory testing.
Nationwide, authorities documented 29,066 suspected cases, while 8,309 infections have been laboratory confirmed.
Health experts have expressed concern over the increasing number of infections, emphasizing that timely vaccination, strengthened disease surveillance, and emergency preventive measures are critical to containing the outbreak and preventing further loss of life.
Officials have urged parents to ensure their children receive routine measles vaccinations, as immunization remains the most effective protection against the disease.
