Asim Munir Turkey Medal Boosts Pakistan Turkey Defence Ties

Pakistan & Turkey – (Special Correspondent/Web Desk) – Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir has received a special Turkey medal during his official visit to Ankara. The Pakistan Turkey defence medal was given to him by Turkish military chief General Selcuk Bayraktaroglu. This honour shows the strong bond between the two countries.

Munir, who holds the roles of Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff, is currently on a two-day visit to Turkiye. His trip aims to build stronger military and defence ties between Pakistan and Turkiye. Both nations call each other “brotherly,” and this visit adds more weight to that bond.

He was welcomed with full honours right from his arrival. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan personally received him at Ankara Airport. This warm welcome reflects how much value Turkiye places on its friendship with Pakistan.

What Happened During the Meetings

During his stay, Munir met several top Turkish leaders. He held talks with President Erdogan and Defence Minister Yasar Guler. They spoke about regional security and other shared concerns. Both sides agreed to keep working together as the world faces new security challenges.

Munir also visited the Turkish General Staff headquarters. There, he received a formal guard of honour. He then held detailed talks with General Bayraktaroglu, the head of Turkiye’s armed forces. It was during this meeting that Munir received the Turkish Armed Forces Distinguished Service Medal. This award recognizes his role in strengthening military ties between the two nations.

The Field Marshal did not stop there. He also visited the Turkish Land Forces headquarters. General Metin Tokel, the force’s commander, welcomed him warmly. The two discussed matters related to army cooperation and training.

A Visit to Ataturk’s Resting Place

Munir also paid a visit to Anitkabir, the resting place of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. Ataturk is known as the founder of modern Turkiye. Munir laid a wreath there as a mark of respect. This gesture shows how much Pakistan values Turkiye’s history and leadership.

Growing Defence Cooperation

This visit is part of a bigger picture. Just weeks ago, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also met President Erdogan in Istanbul. Both leaders talked about growing trade between the two countries. They set a goal of reaching $5 billion in bilateral trade.

Turkiye is already helping Pakistan in many defence projects. It is building corvette warships for the Pakistan Navy. Turkish companies have also upgraded many F-16 jets used by the Pakistan Air Force. On top of that, Turkiye shares drone technology with Pakistan, which has helped boost the country’s defence system.

There have also been talks about a bigger defence deal. Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkiye have reportedly worked on a draft agreement. Officials say discussions are still ongoing, but no final deal has been signed yet.
