Egypt Files FIFA Complaint Against Referee After Exit
Egypt FIFA complaint referee case grows after Argentina loss
Egypt – (Special Correspondent/Web Desk) – The Egypt FIFA complaint referee case has taken center stage after the Pharaohs’ painful 3-2 World Cup exit against Argentina. Egyptian Football Federation chief Hany Aburida has formally asked FIFA to investigate French referee Francois Letexier, calling the officiating “unfair” and full of “double standards.”
The match started well for Egypt. Mostafa Ziko had a goal ruled out after VAR spotted an earlier foul on Lisandro Martinez. Just minutes later, Ziko found the net again, putting Egypt 2-0 up and dreaming of a first-ever quarter-final spot.
But things turned late in the game. Argentina fought back through Cristian Romero and Lionel Messi to level the score. Then, in stoppage time, Egypt believed they deserved a penalty after Alexis Mac Allister appeared to pull down Hamdy Fathy. No penalty was given, and Enzo Fernandez scored the winner for Argentina moments later.
Egypt’s federation says the referee team ignored key camera angles that could have favored their side. The complaint calls for Letexier and his entire crew to be removed from the tournament once FIFA completes its review.
Coach Hossam Hassan didn’t hide his frustration either. Speaking to reporters, he said Egypt had been treated unfairly and accused officials of protecting the world champions. He even suggested organizers wanted Messi’s run in the tournament to continue.
“We haven’t seen respect or fair play,” Hassan said after the match, adding that outside pressures sometimes affect football decisions more than people realize.
For now, FIFA has not responded publicly to Egypt’s demands. But the pressure is growing, and many fans around the world are watching closely to see how football’s governing body handles this sensitive case.
Whether or not action is taken, this controversy has sparked fresh debate about VAR consistency and fairness in high-stakes World Cup matches.
