Baby declared dead returned alive after police intervention
Sahiwal hospital accused after newborn declared dead handed over alive
The family said the baby, daughter of Muhammad Ashraf from Chak 109/9-L, had been declared dead by the children’s ward administration. They alleged that the hospital also issued a death certificate to the family.
Relatives claimed that despite issuing the certificate, hospital doctors did not hand over the newborn’s body. The family then accused the hospital administration of withholding the child and staged a protest outside the facility.

After the family contacted the police emergency helpline, police reached the hospital. The family said the newborn was subsequently handed over to them alive.
The relatives alleged that the baby had deliberately been declared dead and called for an inquiry into the incident. They also urged Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to take notice and ensure such incidents are prevented in the future.
The Medical Superintendent and Deputy Medical Superintendent of Sahiwal Teaching Hospital did not respond when contacted for their version.
