Flour prices surge nationwide, Karachi records highest rate

Flour prices climb across Pakistan as Karachi hits Rs2,900

Islamabad: (Web Desk) – Flour prices have risen again across Pakistan, increasing financial pressure on households already facing high costs of electricity, gas and fuel.

According to data issued by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, the price of a 20-kilogram flour bag has reached Rs2,900 in Karachi, the highest rate recorded in the country. The previous highest price was Rs2,800, indicating a continued increase in the cost of the essential commodity.

A 20kg flour bag is being sold for up to Rs2,800 in Islamabad, Quetta and Khuzdar, while consumers in Peshawar are paying as much as Rs2,750. The price has reached Rs2,747 in Rawalpindi, Rs2,740 in Hyderabad and Rs2,700 in Bannu.

In other cities, a 20kg bag costs Rs2,560 in Sukkur, Rs2,500 in Larkana, Rs2,420 in Multan, Rs2,400 in Gujranwala and Bahawalpur, Rs2,333 in Sialkot, Rs2,300 in Faisalabad, Rs2,250 in Lahore and Rs2,240 in Sargodha.

Taxes and margins inflate petrol, diesel prices sharply

Consumers, particularly from low- and middle-income groups, say rising flour prices have severely affected household budgets. They have urged the government to take effective measures to control the prices of essential food items and provide relief to the public.
