Trump Claims Iran Agreement Close Despite Unresolved Key Issues
Iran Talks Advance as Trump Seeks Better Terms
WASHINGTON: (Web Desk) – US President Donald Trump has said that Iran has assured Washington it will not pursue nuclear weapons, claiming that both countries are edging closer to a possible agreement.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Trump stated that ongoing negotiations were producing the outcomes sought by the United States. He said discussions were progressing positively and suggested that a deal could be reached in the near future.
The president emphasized that the US was not rushing the process, arguing that a carefully negotiated agreement would be more effective and sustainable than a hastily arranged settlement.
Trump also asserted that Washington remained in a strong position during the talks and claimed that Iran was currently facing substantial military pressure. He warned that if diplomatic efforts failed to deliver acceptable results, further military action against Iran could become an option.

He additionally claimed that the Strait of Hormuz would reopen following the signing of a formal agreement between the two nations.
In a separate development, US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that American forces had disabled a commercial vessel in the Gulf of Oman that was allegedly heading toward an Iranian port.
According to CENTCOM, the Gambian-flagged ship ignored more than 20 warnings and was accused of violating a US maritime blockade. The command said a Hellfire missile was ultimately used to strike the vessel’s engine room, leaving it unable to continue its journey.
Meanwhile, Iranian officials warned vessels against crossing the Strait of Hormuz without authorization. An Iranian military spokesperson said Tehran maintained full authority over the strategic waterway and cautioned that unauthorized ships could face serious repercussions.
Despite signs of progress in negotiations, uncertainty continues to surround the proposed agreement. Reports from The New York Times indicate that President Trump has delayed making a final decision after a two-hour meeting in the White House Situation Room ended without a breakthrough.
White House officials said the president would only endorse an agreement that fully protects US interests and meets all conditions set by his administration.
