Govt Confirms Three-Day Eid-ul-Azha Holiday After Moon Sighting
ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – The federal government of Pakistan has announced a three-day public holiday for Eid-ul-Azha, confirming that the country will observe holidays on May 26, 27, and 28.
The decision follows the official sighting of the Zilhaj moon on May 17, which set the date for Eid-ul-Azha to be observed nationwide on May 27. Reports of moon sightings were received from several cities, including Rawalpindi, Peshawar, and Mardan, leading to the final confirmation.

The announcement was made by the Chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, who verified the testimonies and formally declared the start of the Islamic month of Zilhaj.
With the confirmation, preparations for Eid-ul-Azha have begun across the country. The festival, one of the most significant events in the Islamic calendar, symbolizes sacrifice, devotion, and unity within the Muslim community.
Earlier, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee held a meeting in Karachi to review moon sighting reports and determine the start of the holy month. Public anticipation had been high amid reports of possible sightings from coastal and inland regions.
