Pir Syed Mehr Farid-ul-Haq Gilani: A legacy rooted in spiritual heritage

By: Qaiser Qureshi

Pir Syed Mehr Farid-ul-Haq Gilani (Late), a prominent spiritual figure of Golra Sharif, was born on September 15, 1981, in the historic town of Golra Sharif.

He is the eldest son of Sajjada Nashin Pir Syed Moin-ul-Haq Gilani, inheriting a rich legacy of spiritual leadership and devotion.

Raised in a deeply spiritual environment, Pir Mehr Farid-ul-Haq Gilani was profoundly influenced by his distinguished lineage.

His maternal grandfather, Pir Syed Ghulam Moin-ud-Din Shah Gilani widely known as Lala Ji was a revered figure, while his paternal grandfather, Pir Syed Shah Abdul-Haq Gilani, affectionately called Chote Lala Ji, also held great spiritual stature.

From an early age, he was surrounded by love, care, and guidance from both grandfathers, who played a pivotal role in shaping his character and spiritual inclination.

His childhood was marked by their nurturing presence, particularly the deep affection of his maternal grandfather, who would often hold him close, reflecting a bond rooted in both love and spiritual connection.

He received his early religious education at Dargah Ghausia Golra Sharif, where he devoted himself to mastering the Holy Quran, Persian and other academic sciences with passion, hard work, and dedication.

Alongside his religious studies, he also pursued modern education and graduated from Namal University, Islamabad. He later earned a master’s degree in Persian, demonstrating his intellectual depth and scholarly excellence.

Spirituality was deeply rooted in his nature. He was a man of refined manners, and his gentle presence brought peace to those around him. Those who sat in his gatherings experienced inner tranquility, silent joy and spiritual illumination. His kind gaze instilled purity of heart and a deep love for the Divine.

In the field of literature, he shone like a bright star. He was also a gifted poet, writing under the pen name “Mehr.” His Naat, Manaqib, and Rubaiyat beautifully expressed love for the Holy Prophet Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH), devotion to the Ahl al-Bayt, and the subtle beauty of Sufism. His poetry touched hearts, uplifted souls, and inspired minds.

He remained deeply committed to the mission of Khatam-e-Nabiyyah and fulfilled this responsibility with sincerity and perseverance under the guidance of his respected father at Dargah Alia Golra Sharif. Every year on August 25, the International Khatam-e-Nabiyyah Conference was held under his leadership and presidency. At its conclusion, he would deliver a comprehensive and thoughtful sermon, offering well-rounded religious guidance to the believers.
His sudden demise has created a profound spiritual void and is an irreparable loss. It is as though a radiant lamp has been extinguished, yet its light will continue to shine in the hearts of many. His teachings, spiritual legacy, and literary contributions will remain a guiding beacon for generations.

On April 9, this radiant soul this shining “Mehr” and precious “Yusuf” departed from our sight, and the pleasant spring of Margalla Valley seemed to turn into autumn.
