It will also allow the coaching staff to test combinations and assess squad depth in a competitive environment.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): Pakistan have confirmed their participation in a four-nation men’s football tournament in Maldives next month, offering the national side another opportunity for international action ahead of upcoming regional events.

The tournament, titled the Independence Cup, will be held from June 1 to 10 as part of the Maldives’ Independence Day celebrations. Alongside Pakistan, the competition will feature hosts Maldives, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh U23.

The event is expected to provide valuable match practice for Pakistan as the team aims to build momentum and evaluate its options against familiar South Asian opposition. It will also allow the coaching staff to test combinations and assess squad depth in a competitive environment.

Pakistan head into the tournament after concluding their AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers campaign with a 2-1 win over Myanmar in a behind-closed-doors match at Jinnah Sports Stadium.

Despite the victory, Pakistan had already been eliminated from qualification contention, finishing at the bottom of Group E with two points from five matches. The team lost home-and-away fixtures against Saudi Arabia and Syria, while both encounters against Afghanistan ended in draws. Pakistan had also suffered a 1-0 defeat against Myanmar in their earlier meeting during the qualifiers.

The upcoming tournament now presents an opportunity for Pakistan to regroup after a challenging campaign and gain further international exposure ahead of future assignments.
