US support for Israel declines sharply in survey

New poll shows declining American support for Israel over time

Washington (Web Desk) – In Washington, a new survey has revealed a noticeable drop in public support for Israel among Americans.

According to a poll conducted by NBC News, around 39 percent of Americans now hold an unfavorable view of Israel, while only 32 percent express a positive opinion.

This marks a shift compared to three years ago, when 47 percent of respondents viewed Israel positively and 34 percent had a negative perception.

The report suggests that one of the key reasons behind this decline is increasing criticism of Israel among Democrats and liberal voters.

Among Democrats, public opinion has changed significantly. In 2023, views were nearly evenly split, but now only 13 percent of Democrats hold a favorable opinion of Israel, while 57 percent view it negatively.

Independent voters have also shown a similar trend. Positive views have dropped from 40 percent to 21 percent, while unfavorable opinions have risen sharply from 22 percent to 48 percent.

The survey further indicates that Americans are now almost evenly divided in their sympathies regarding Israel and the Palestinians. About 40 percent say they sympathize more with Israel, while 39 percent lean toward the Palestinians.

This represents a major shift from 2013, when 45 percent of Americans sympathized with Israel compared to just 13 percent for the Palestinians.

The findings also highlight generational and racial differences, with younger Americans showing a particularly sharp decline in support for Israel.

The survey was conducted between February 27 and March 2.
