Maryam Nawaz approves Rehmat Card for widows, orphans

Punjab government to provide financial aid through Rehmat Card

LAHORE (Web Desk) – Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved the launch of the “Rehmat Card” to provide financial assistance to widows and children who have lost their parents.

The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by the Punjab chief minister, where officials announced that direct financial assistance of up to Rs100,000 will be provided to deserving families under the Punjab Chief Minister Rehmat Card programme.

In the first phase, the initiative aims to support more than 50,000 destitute families, offering them financial relief and social protection.

Officials said the project will be launched immediately after Eid al-Fitr.

Under the scheme, widows will receive Rs100,000, while orphans will be given Rs25,000 each through the Rehmat Card.

Applications for the programme can be submitted through a mobile application, web portal, telephone service, or the Zakat Office centres across the province.

During the meeting, Rashid Nasrullah gave a detailed briefing on the Rehmat Card project and its implementation strategy.

Addressing the meeting, Maryam Nawaz said widows in Punjab should not be viewed as charity cases but as citizens whose welfare is the responsibility of the state.

“Widows will receive their rights, not charity,” she said, adding that every individual has a rightful share in the resources of Punjab.

She further said the government aims to empower widows through self-employment opportunities under the Rehmat Card initiative.

According to the chief minister, the programme will help widows and orphaned children achieve financial independence and a dignified life.
