MSC Diverts Gulf Shipments Amid Middle East Conflict
Middle East Tensions Force MSC to Divert All Shipments
TEHRAN: (Web Desk) – Geneva-based shipping giant MSC announced on Tuesday that all cargo destined for ports in the Gulf will be rerouted to the nearest safe ports due to the ongoing Middle East conflict.
In a notice to customers, MSC stated that it is declaring an “End of Voyage” for all shipments under its custody, whether at sea or ashore. Shipments currently en route will be unloaded at the nearest safe port and made available for local delivery. Customers wishing to forward their cargo to another destination will need to book a new transport, and a mandatory $800 per container surcharge will apply to cover deviation costs.
Trump backs Iran change; Tehran warns regional attacks
The company described the decision as necessary under “exceptional circumstances beyond its control,” following a previous announcement on Sunday ordering Gulf vessels to seek safe shelter and suspending all Middle East bookings.
The developments come amid heightened tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic shipping route through which nearly 25% of the world’s seaborne oil passes, alongside significant commercial cargo. Recent US-Israel strikes on Iran have escalated risks for vessels navigating the region.
