Gas Explosion in Karachi Building Kills 10, Causes Partial Collapse

Rescue teams launched search operation and pulled several people from the rubble

KARACHI-(Web Desk)- At least 10 people lost their lives and 12 others were injured after a gas leak sparked an explosion in a three-storey residential building in Soldier Bazaar No. 3 on Wednesday night, rescue officials confirmed on Thursday.

The blast, which occurred on the first floor, caused a portion of the structure to collapse, trapping several residents beneath the debris. Emergency teams rushed to the scene and launched an intensive search and rescue operation, deploying all available resources. Authorities said preliminary investigations indicate the explosion was likely caused by a gas leak, possibly from a cylinder or a gas suction machine.

Rescuers pulled multiple victims from the rubble. Among the deceased were a 10-year-old girl, Nazia, and a 60-year-old man, Mohammad Riaz. The rescue operation continued as officials assessed structural damage and searched for any remaining survivors.

The body of a woman was also recovered, while the identification of another victim was underway.

Officials said a 14-year-old girl was rescued in an injured condition. Children were among the wounded, who were shifted to the hospital.

Two people are still believed to be trapped under the debris. Rescue authorities said narrow streets around the building were making the operation difficult.

Police cordoned off the area and tightened security as search efforts continued.
