Pakistan Pushes Rice Exports to Türkiye, Meets Ambassador

Jam Kamal Khan Discusses Expanding Pakistan Rice Exports to Türkiye

Islamabad (Web Desk) – Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan held a detailed meeting with Turkish Ambassador Dr. Irfan Neziroğlu in Islamabad to discuss strengthening bilateral trade and boosting Pakistan’s rice exports to Türkiye, reported 24NewsHD.

The minister highlighted Pakistan’s excellent rice harvest this season and assured that the country is ready to supply both basmati and non-basmati rice at internationally competitive rates. To counter aggressive pricing from competitors like India and Vietnam, Pakistan has introduced a government-backed pricing support mechanism to match global market rates and safeguard farmer incomes.

During the discussions, Jam Kamal emphasized activating government-to-government (G2G) trade channels alongside private-sector arrangements to facilitate bulk procurement. Key market access issues, including tariff-rate quotas (TRQs), import licensing, and the potential for zero or reduced tariffs on basmati rice, were also addressed. He called for better utilisation of the existing TRQ of 18,000 metric tons under the Pakistan–Türkiye Preferential Trade Agreement.
