Pakistan Welcomes US Support to Strengthen Law Enforcement Agencies

ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi on Saturday welcomed US support aimed at strengthening the capacity of Pakistan’s law-enforcement agencies, stating that modern software would be used to help identify individuals involved in crimes abroad.

He expressed these views during a meeting with US Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Natalie Baker, who called on him in Islamabad along with a delegation for detailed discussions.

The interior minister said that the provision of advanced weapons from the United States would significantly enhance the operational capacity of Pakistan’s border security forces and coastal guards. He added that Pakistan also welcomes US cooperation for restructuring the Frontier Constabulary and strengthening the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the National Cybercrime Investigation Agency (NCCIA).

Naqvi expressed optimism that US assistance would help make the FIA’s anti-terrorism wing more effective, noting that it would be the first federal-level anti-terror unit maintaining close coordination with provincial authorities.

He informed the delegation that the NCCIA is actively conducting nationwide crackdowns against illegal call centres. Both sides agreed to expand bilateral cooperation in areas of security, border management, and law enforcement training.

Discussions also covered Pakistan-US relations and enhancing collaboration in sectors of mutual interest. The two sides emphasized the need for stronger coordination at all levels to improve cooperation.

Training programmes for FIA, Frontier Constabulary, and Cyber Crime Agency officials were discussed, along with plans to establish a Centre for Transnational Crime and an Academy at the FIA headquarters.
