19th Buraq Space Camp Wraps Up at OIC-COMSTECH Islamabad

Leaders, scientists, and youth gathered in Islamabad to celebrate innovation, mentorship, and future leadership in space science education.

Islamabad – (Special Correspondent / Web Desk) – The 19th Buraq Space Camp concluded on Monday with a vibrant closing ceremony held at the OIC-COMSTECH Secretariat Auditorium in Islamabad. The event drew a diverse gathering of policymakers, scientists, educators, diplomats, and young participants, all celebrating the importance of youth involvement and skill development in space science and technology.

The ceremony opened with a recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by welcoming remarks from Prof. Dr. Shahid Mahmud, Chairman of the Buraq Society and Senior Honorary Advisor to OIC-COMSTECH. He underscored the society’s longstanding commitment to nurturing young minds in space sciences and stressed the value of continuous mentorship and practical, hands-on learning opportunities for the youth.

In his welcome address, H.E. Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General, OIC-COMSTECH, underscored the growing relevance of space science in modern development. He noted that space technologies now play a critical role in communication, climate monitoring, disaster management, agriculture, and sustainable development, particularly for developing countries.

He stressed that investing in youth through initiatives like the Buraq Space Camp is an investment in future scientific leadership and innovation.

Brief remarks were also delivered by Ms. Haadiya Usman, Base Commander 2025, Buraq Society, who shared reflections on the camp activities and commended the enthusiasm and creativity of the participants. Mr. Usman Yousuf, Vice Chairman, Buraq Society, emphasized the importance of continuity, collaboration, and creating pathways for students to pursue careers in space science and related fields.

The Guest of Honour, H.E. Ambassador Aftab Ahmad Khokher, Assistant Secretary General (Science & Technology), OIC General Secretariat, appreciated the efforts of OIC-COMSTECH and Buraq Society in promoting space science education among youth and reaffirmed the OIC’s commitment to strengthening cooperation in science and technology across member states.

The Chief Guest, H.E. Ms. Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Federal Minister for IT & Telecommunication, in her address, highlighted COMSTECH’s importance for global leadership of Pakistan in science, technology and innovation.  She encouraged students to pursue innovation, critical thinking, and ethical use of technology, noting that Pakistan’s future competitiveness depends on a skilled and forward-looking youth.

The ceremony also featured a farewell video, followed by a vote of thanks, prize distribution, and group photographs.

The 19th Buraq Space Camp served as a significant platform for inspiring young minds, fostering collaboration, and strengthening Pakistan’s and OIC member states’ engagement in space science education and capacity building.
