Sarfaraz Praises Under-19 Team’s Outstanding Performance
PM Praises Under-19 Team, Announces Rs10 Million Reward
Islamabad: Pakistan’s national Under-19 cricket team mentor Sarfaraz Ahmed, head coach Shahid Anwar, captain Farhan Yousaf, and players including Sameer Minhas addressed a joint press conference, highlighting the team’s preparation, performance, and future goals.
Head coach Shahid Anwar said the talent hunt process began on June 17, during which trials were conducted involving around 70 players. Each player was given four matches to prove their ability, and those who performed well were invited to training camps. A final 10-day camp was held in Karachi, which was also attended by former cricketers. He added that the team’s goal before departure was not only to win the trophy but also to win the hearts of cricket fans.
Mentor Sarfaraz Ahmed said the Under-19 team performed exceptionally well and credited both players and coaching staff for their hard work. He revealed that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met the team and praised their performance. Sarfaraz also stated that the Prime Minister announced a cash reward of Rs 10 million for each player. He expressed confidence that young players would continue to make the country proud in the future.
Speaking about team selection, Shahid Anwar said an additional specialist spinner was taken to the Under-19 Asia Cup, but grassy pitches limited the effectiveness of spin bowling. He stressed that giving players experience helps them improve and mature as cricketers.
Captain Farhan Yousaf admitted he could not deliver a strong individual performance in the Asia Cup but vowed to do better in the upcoming World Cup. He said the management fully supported the players and encouraged them to play their natural game. “No player’s morale was low, and everyone had confidence,” he added. Farhan also said preparations for the tri-series and World Cup were going well and that the team aims to perform even better in upcoming events.

Batsman Sameer Minhas said the focus remained on playing fearless and natural cricket, crediting the management for providing strong support. Sarfaraz Ahmed also highlighted that Ahmed Hussain’s innings was just as important as Sameer Minhas’ performance, praising the team for playing as a unit rather than relying on individual brilliance.
Bowler Abdul Subhan said he bowled according to the management’s plans, which helped the team execute its strategies effectively.
Talking about matches against India, Farhan Yousaf said Pakistan played aggressive cricket and remained confident throughout. Sameer Minhas added that his focus against India was to play a solid innings. Sarfaraz Ahmed criticized India’s on-field behavior, calling it unsporting, and emphasized that Pakistan celebrated its victory with sportsmanship. He stressed that maintaining sportsman spirit is essential in cricket.
The team reiterated that their main focus now is the Under-19 World Cup, with full confidence in their preparation and unity.
