SYDNEY — Pakistan batter Babar Azam achieved his first-ever half-century in the Big Bash League (BBL) during the Sydney Derby between the Sixers and Thunder at the Sydney Showground Stadium on Saturday.
The 31-year-old, who had a slow start to his BBL career, opened the innings for the Sixers alongside Daniel Hughes after Thunder captain David Warner won the toss and chose to field. Babar faced an early challenge from Reece Topley but responded confidently, guiding the ball to mid-on.
He reached his maiden BBL half-century off 38 deliveries, showcasing his signature cover drives, before being caught behind off Topley for 58 runs from 42 balls, including five fours and two sixes. Josh Philippe top-scored with 96 off 57 balls, while the pair shared a crucial 140-run partnership for the second wicket, helping the Sixers post a total of 198/5 in 20 overs.
