PM Sharif, Saudi military chief discuss regional security and partnership
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia on Monday reaffirmed their resolve to further strengthen their historic defence and strategic partnership, as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Chief of General Staff of the Saudi Armed Forces General Fayyad bin Hamed Al-Ruwaili.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed General Al-Ruwaily and conveyed his best wishes to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
He reiterated Pakistan’s firm commitment to enhancing cooperation with Saudi Arabia in economic, defence and security sectors, describing the bilateral relationship as rooted in “shared beliefs, common values and mutual trust.”
The premier also appreciated the Kingdom’s consistent support for Pakistan, calling it unwavering and timely, especially during critical national challenges.
Recent high-level engagements
During the meeting, the prime minister recalled his recent visits to Riyadh over the past two months. These engagements resulted in the signing of a historic strategic bilateral defence agreement, marking a major milestone in Pakistan–Saudi ties.
He assured that Pakistan remains committed to expanding defence collaboration, including joint training programmes, military exercises and the exchange of expertise.
