Senate Approves 27th Constitutional Amendment with Two-Thirds Majority

When voting began on the motion to present the amendment, Saifullah Abro stood in favor of it, along with JUI-F Senator Ahmad Khan.

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s Upper House of Parliament (Senate) has approved the 27th Constitutional Amendment with a two-thirds majority.

Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar presented the motion to introduce the amendment bill in the Senate. During the session, members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) staged a protest in front of the Senate Chairman’s dais, while PTI Senator Saifullah Abro chose not to join the protest and remained seated.

When voting began on the motion to present the amendment, Saifullah Abro stood in favor of it, along with JUI-F Senator Ahmad Khan. The Senate then proceeded to approve all 59 clauses of the amendment one by one, with 64 members voting in favor. Senators stood up from their seats to cast their votes.

Later, the 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill was presented for final approval. Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar once again moved the bill for passage.

Voting took place through division, with senators casting their votes in separate lobbies. A total of 64 members voted in favor of the amendment, while no votes were cast against it.

Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gillani announced the ruling, confirming that the 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill had been passed by the Senate. After the voting process, both Saifullah Abro and Ahmad Khan left the chamber and did not return.
