Pakistan Defeats Sri Lanka in Asia Cup Super 4 to Earn Crucial Points

Sri Lanka managed to score 133 runs for 8 wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

Abu Dhabi: In the Super 4 stage of the Asia Cup T20 tournament, Pakistan secured a vital victory against Sri Lanka, earning 2 important points.

Pakistan successfully chased the target of 134 runs set by Sri Lanka, reaching 135 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 18 overs.

The match took place in Abu Dhabi, where Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha won the toss and chose to field first, inviting Sri Lanka to bat.

Pakistan retained the same playing XI that featured in their previous match against India, making no changes to the lineup.

Sri Lanka managed to score 133 runs for 8 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Kamindu Mendis was the standout performer with a well-crafted 50 runs.

Sri Lanka Innings:

Pakistan started strong, dismissing half of the Sri Lankan batting lineup for just 58 runs. Kamindu Mendis played a responsible innings to stabilize the innings with his 50 runs.

Other notable contributions included Pathum Nissanka (8), Kusal Mendis (0), Pereira (15), Asalanka (20), and Hasaranga (15). Kusal Perera remained unbeaten on 17 runs.

From the Pakistani bowling side, Shaheen Afridi took 3 wickets, while Haris Rauf and Hussain Talat claimed 2 wickets each. Abrar Ahmed also chipped in with one wicket.

Pakistan Innings:

Chasing 134, Pakistan faced early challenges as 5 wickets fell with the score at 80 runs.

Fakhar Zaman scored 47, Sahibzada Farhan made 24, Saeed Ajmal contributed 2, captain Salman Ali Agha added 5, and Mohammad Haris scored 13 before getting out.

However, crucial unbeaten innings by Mohammad Nawaz (38*) and Hussain Talat (32*) guided Pakistan to victory, keeping their hopes alive for a place in the final.

Points Table Update:

In the Super 4 stage, the top two teams qualify for the final. Each team plays three matches.

Currently, India leads the table with 2 points from 1 match, followed by Bangladesh with 2 points from 1 match. Pakistan is third with 2 points from 2 matches, while Sri Lanka remains at the bottom after losing both of their matches.
