PTI Calls for Inclusive National Dialogue, Emergency Measures on Water Crisis

“No decisions of such magnitude should be made without national political consensus,” Salman Akram Raja said.

Islamabad — Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Asad Qaiser on Wednesday called for a comprehensive national dialogue that goes beyond political parties and includes all relevant stakeholders to address the country’s growing challenges.

Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, Qaiser emphasized the need for urgent action on water resource development and proposed the declaration of a national emergency to prioritize the construction of dams — particularly small-scale dams — across the country.

“All provinces and the federal government must come together to formulate a comprehensive plan for water management and dam construction,” he said.

Qaiser also voiced PTI’s willingness to engage in discussions on critical national issues, including the economy and border security, but stressed that such conversations must not be limited to current government representatives or political parties alone.

“We ask what system they intend to continue with,” he said, questioning recent political developments and casting doubt on the legitimacy of the existing political setup.

PTI Rejects Constitutional Amendments by Current Parliament

PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja, also present at the briefing, distanced the party from recent controversial remarks by party member Ali Amin Gandapur regarding the Kalabagh Dam and a presidential system. Raja clarified that Gandapur’s statements reflected personal opinions and not the party’s official stance.

“No decisions of such magnitude should be made without national political consensus,” he said.

Raja further declared that PTI would not recognize any constitutional amendments passed by the current parliament, criticizing the post-election governance structure as “anti-people” and “anti-poor.”

“The system created through the February 8 elections is failing,” he asserted. “We want an economy and society that supports the poor. Current policies seem to benefit only the elite and industrialists.”

Raja urged policymakers to demonstrate responsibility and respect the public mandate, reiterating the party’s call for reforms rooted in public welfare and democratic integrity.
