India aims to host 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad

A successful event could pave the way for a future Olympic bid and showcase India's capability on the world stage.

India – (Special Correspondent / Web Desk) – India has officially asked to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games. The plan is to hold the event in the city of Ahmedabad. The country hopes this will help it prepare for a future bid to host the Summer Olympics in 2036.

A team from India’s Olympic group delivered the official bid in London last Friday. They presented the proposal to the leaders of the Commonwealth sports organization.

A top official explained that this is more than just a sports bid. It is a promise to create a Games focused on athletes, open to all, kind to the planet, and modern in its approach. The goal is to honor the event’s history while also building a bright future for it.

The government of India has already agreed to support the bid fully. Key ministries have promised the needed backing and financial guarantees.

The official called this a “proud moment” for the nation. It aligns with the Prime Minister’s dream of bringing the 2036 Olympics to India. Hosting the Commonwealth Games would show the world that India can manage major global sporting events.

Other countries are also interested in hosting the 2030 Games. Canada and Nigeria have also put their names forward. The winning host city will be chosen and announced in November.

Recently, it has been difficult to find hosts for the Commonwealth Games. The next event, in 2026, will be a smaller version held in Scotland. This happened after the original host, a state in Australia, dropped out due to high costs.
