Heavy rain causes sudden flooding in Jhelum localities

Rescue teams evacuate residents and work to restore vital services after sudden midnight floods.

JHELUM – (Special Correspondent / Web Desk) – Several areas in Jhelum district were suddenly flooded early Sunday after heavy rains in nearby hills caused flash floods.

Jhelum’s Deputy Commissioner, Syed Maisam Abbas, reported that over 62 mm of rain fell after midnight. This intense downpour led to severe flooding in Nathwala and Rasool Nagar, with water spilling onto roads and into homes.

Authorities confirmed that rescue teams, including police, were quickly deployed. They successfully blocked dangerous traffic routes and moved stranded pedestrians and families to safer ground.

In Kandala village, a local pond overflowed, sending water into the community. The Pind Dadan Khan administration is now conducting dewatering operations to clear water from houses and streets.

The DC also provided an update on repairs from last week’s floods in Lillah Sharif. Over 1,000 feet of damaged water supply lines are being replaced. Engineering teams are working in shifts to restore water to a dozen Salt Range localities, with full resumption expected within five days.

Officials are continuously monitoring the situation. In a separate tragic incident, Rescue 1122 recovered the partially decomposed body of an unidentified woman, believed to be around 45 years old, from the bank of the Jhelum River at Khurd Bela. The body has been transferred to the District Headquarters Hospital.
