ISLAMABAD (News Desk) – The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has announced the successful completion and commissioning of the Jhal Magsi Development Project in Balochistan, following Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif’s directive to fast-track development in the remote district.
The project, which began in February 2024 after the government approved key incentives—most notably the conversion from the 1997 Petroleum Policy to the Marginal Field Gas Pricing Policy—was completed ahead of schedule, overcoming complex technical and geographical challenges.
Currently, the Jhal Magsi Field is producing approximately 14 Million Standard Cubic Feet per Day (MMSCFD) of pipeline-quality gas and 45 Barrels per Day (BPD) of condensate. The gas is being supplied to the Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) through a newly constructed 98-kilometer pipeline, connecting the field to SSGCL’s network.
The project is operated by OGDCL, which holds a 56% working interest, in partnership with Pakistan Oilfields Limited (POL) (24%) and Government Holdings Private Limited (GHPL) (20%).
Fast-Track Development and Technical Milestones
The development scope included the installation of several major facilities: an Amine Unit, Dehydration Unit, Hot Oil Package, power generation systems, and gathering infrastructure. These were all part of a comprehensive plan to accelerate energy development while addressing Pakistan’s increasing demand for natural gas.
CSR Initiatives Bring Tangible Benefits to Local Communities
In addition to energy development, OGDCL has made significant strides in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in Jhal Magsi:
-
OGDCL Grammar School: Construction is 50% complete.
-
Mother & Child Health Care Facility: Developed in collaboration with Indus Hospital, currently 60% complete.
-
84 climate-resilient houses constructed for local residents.
-
Four-year fully funded scholarships awarded to deserving students at Sukkur IBA.
-
Technical training for 55 local youth in partnership with NAVTTC (30 trained, 25 in progress).
-
Two ambulances donated and free annual eye camps organized.
-
Ration bags distributed to 800 families.
-
Two RO plants and an underground water tank installed to ensure access to clean drinking water.
-
Sponsorship of the Jhal Magsi Desert Rally to promote local culture and sports.
National Commitment to Energy and Equality
OGDCL’s Managing Director/CEO praised the project’s timely execution and emphasized the importance of integrated development in resource-rich but underdeveloped regions.
“The successful commissioning of the Jhal Magsi Development Project not only strengthens our national energy security but also brings direct socio-economic benefits to the people of Jhal Magsi. These efforts are aligned with the Prime Minister’s vision for inclusive development,” the CEO said.
The completion of the project and its accompanying CSR initiatives underline OGDCL’s dual commitment to energy development and community upliftment, making it a model for future projects in similarly remote and underserved areas of Pakistan.
