Babar Azam slips in ICC ODI ranking after West Indies series

Star batter Babar Azam has dropped to third place in the latest ICC ODI rankings following a lackluster performance in Pakistan’s three-match series against the West Indies.

The former Pakistan captain, who previously held the second spot among the world’s top ODI batters, now sits at third with 751 rating points. He was overtaken by India’s Rohit Sharma, who climbed to second place with 756 points — despite not having played an ODI since the Champions Trophy final on March 9, 2025.

Babar’s fall in the rankings came after a dismal outing with the bat. He managed just 56 runs across the three ODIs, averaging 18.66. In the opening match, Babar showed promise with a 47-run knock off 64 deliveries before falling to spinner Gudakesh Motie. However, his form dipped sharply in the following games — dismissed for a three-ball duck in the second ODI and scoring only 9 off 23 balls in the third.

The rankings update also brought bad news for other Pakistani batters. ODI captain Mohammad Rizwan slipped one spot to 22nd with 602 points, while opener Saim Ayub fell nine places to 46th.

Pakistan’s overall performance in the series was underwhelming, culminating in a crushing 202-run defeat in the final ODI at the Brian Lara Cricket Stadium. Bowled out for just 92 runs, Pakistan handed the West Indies their first ODI series win over them in 34 years, with the hosts taking the series 2–1.
