Female TV Anchor and Family Swept Away in Babusar Floods, 15 Tourists Missing

Authorities continue to urge caution as weather conditions remain unpredictable in the region.

Skardu – A tragic incident occurred near Babusar Top where a female news anchor from a private television channel, along with her husband and three children, lost their lives after being swept away by flash floods. The spokesperson for the Gilgit-Baltistan government has confirmed that a total of 15 tourists were caught in the deadly floods.

According to Faizullah, the spokesperson for the GB government, the missing anchor has been identified as Shabana Liaqat of Khyber News. Her family had reached out to the provincial authorities after losing contact with her, her husband Liaqat, and their three children, all of whom were reportedly traveling on the Babusar highway when the floods hit.

Eyewitnesses reported that 10 to 15 tourists were swept away by powerful floodwaters in the area. Rescue teams have since recovered seven bodies, while search operations continue for the remaining missing individuals.

Search and rescue operations are being conducted with the help of sniffer dogs and drones. Various agencies are participating in the effort, including Diamer Police, local administration, Disaster Management Authority, Rescue 1122, the Pakistan Army, and GB Scouts.
