PM Shehbaz unveils agricultural reforms with easy loans, tech solutions

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif has announced the launch of comprehensive agricultural reforms aimed at revitalizing Pakistan’s farming sector, beginning with the provision of easy and transparent loans to farmers.

Chairing a high-level review meeting on agricultural development in Islamabad, the prime minister emphasized that the government will adopt a public-private partnership model to streamline agricultural financing and support initiatives across the sector. He called for urgent reforms in the Agricultural Development Bank to ensure farmers can access credit through a transparent and efficient process.

“The implementation of agricultural reforms will begin with the provision of easy loans to farmers,” the prime minister said, adding that small-scale landowners must be at the center of this technological and financial transformation.

PM Shehbaz directed that modern agricultural technologies be introduced to meet the specific needs of small-holding farmers. He also stressed the importance of digital platforms to raise awareness and educate farmers about the latest agricultural practices and innovations.

Highlighting the government’s long-term commitment, the prime minister announced that agricultural projects will be given special focus in the upcoming Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP).

“Sustainable reforms in the agricultural sector will further boost the country’s economy,” the prime minister noted, reiterating that agriculture remains a backbone of Pakistan’s economic stability.

The meeting also reviewed strategies to modernize the farming sector through tech-driven solutions, improve access to financing, and strengthen institutional support for farmers.
