Australia Lead by 102 Runs as Rain Halts Play on Day 3 of 2nd Test Against West Indies

Australia, already leading the series 1-0, will look to capitalize on their 102-run lead

St George’s, Grenada – Australia ended the rain-hit third day of the second Test against West Indies at 69 for 3 in 27 overs, leading by 102 runs, before persistent showers forced a halt in play at the National Cricket Stadium.

After dismissing West Indies for 253 in the first innings and responding with 286, Australia found themselves in early trouble at 28/3, losing Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, and nightwatchman Nathan Lyon. However, Cameron Green (31 off 84 balls)* and Steve Smith (20 off 32)* stabilized the innings with a gritty unbeaten 41-run partnership.

The Australian innings faced testing spells from Alzarri Joseph, who claimed the wicket of Lyon and bowled a probing spell, and Jayden Seales, who had earlier been the star with two quick wickets.

Despite the tricky conditions and inconsistent bounce, Green remained patient while Smith counterattacked with timely boundaries, including two crisp fours off Shamar Joseph in one over, lifting the scoring rate before rain interrupted play again.

The rain, which had earlier cut short the post-lunch session by 18 minutes, returned just after the break, prompting umpires to call for covers. As of the latest update, there was no clear word on when play would resume.

Australia, already leading the series 1-0, will look to capitalize on their 102-run lead and post a challenging target, weather permitting, while West Indies will hope for early breakthroughs once play resumes.
