Riyadh (RPN Sports) – Portuguese football legend Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed that he turned down multiple offers to participate in the FIFA Club World Cup, citing the need for rest and preparation ahead of a demanding season with both Al-Nassr and the Portuguese national team.

In a video released by Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr on social media platform X, the 40-year-old forward revealed that his decision was motivated by a desire to maintain peak physical condition in a season that culminates with the World Cup. “I had some offers to play in the World Cup but I think it didn’t make sense because I prefer to have good rest, a good preparation,” Ronaldo said.

Despite FIFA President Gianni Infantino hinting at possible talks regarding Ronaldo’s inclusion in the Club World Cup—despite Al-Nassr not qualifying—Ronaldo made it clear that his focus remains on club commitments and national duties. “I want to be ready not only for Al-Nassr but also for the national team,” he said, referencing his recent participation in Portugal’s successful UEFA Nations League campaign.

Earlier this month, Ronaldo scored in the Nations League final against Spain, contributing to a 2-2 draw that ended in Portugal’s favor after a penalty shootout. His continued impact at the international level underscores his determination to remain a top performer despite his age.

Ronaldo, who joined Al-Nassr in 2022 after his departure from Manchester United, has since become a central figure at the Riyadh-based club. With 93 goals in 105 appearances, he recently extended his contract for another two years. “My goal is always to win something important for Al-Nassr. This is why I renewed the two years more—because I believe that I will be a champion in Saudi Arabia,” he stated.

The Portuguese captain also expressed his ambition to reach 1,000 career goals, having already scored an astounding 932—794 at club level and 138 for Portugal. With his unmatched work ethic and passion, Ronaldo continues to inspire fans worldwide while redefining longevity in elite football.
