Pakistan & Djibouti Sign MoU on Bilateral Political Consultations

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Djibouti have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Bilateral Political Consultations, marking a significant step in enhancing diplomatic relations. The inaugural session of the MoU was also held, with both sides expressing satisfaction over the existing bilateral and multilateral cooperation between the two countries.

The MoU was signed by Hamid Asghar Khan, Additional Foreign Secretary (Africa Division) of Pakistan, and Mahmoud Ali Hassan, Permanent Secretary General (Foreign Secretary) of Djibouti. The signing ceremony was followed by discussions on further strengthening ties across various sectors, including trade, investment, and regional cooperation.

The two sides hailed the MoU as a historic step toward building a long-lasting bilateral partnership. They reviewed the entirety of their bilateral relations, covering political, economic, and defense and security areas, and discussed ways to enhance engagement at all levels.

Both countries also expressed satisfaction with their multilateral cooperation and shared perspectives on regional and international issues of mutual concern, particularly focusing on the Middle East and the Horn of Africa.

Since Pakistan established its resident mission in Djibouti in May 2022, bilateral relations have continued to grow. The next session of the Bilateral Political Consultations will be held in Islamabad in early 2026. Additionally, a visit by the Foreign Minister of Djibouti and the establishment of a Joint Business Council (JBC) are planned for the first half of 2025.
