ISLAMABAD: Chicken prices have risen significantly in various cities across Pakistan, causing concern among consumers.
In Peshawar, the price of live broiler chicken has increased by 25 rupees per kilogram, rising from 485 to 510 rupees.
Karachi has witnessed a significant spike in chicken prices as well. Shopkeepers have begun ignoring official rates, which were set at 635 rupees, and are now charging customers higher prices. In the city, broiler chicken meat is now being sold for 700 to 740 rupees per kilogram, marking a 100-rupee increase in just a week. Although the government has set the official price of eggs at 300 rupees per dozen, eggs are being sold for around 380 rupees. The official price for live chicken is 410 rupees, but it is being sold in wholesale markets for 480 rupees.
In Lahore, the wholesale rate for live broiler chicken has been set at 397 rupees per kilogram, while the retail rate is 411 rupees per kilogram. Broiler chicken meat remains priced at 595 rupees per kilogram, and eggs are being sold for 329 rupees per dozen. However, some traders are ignoring these rates and charging consumers higher prices.

In Multan, the wholesale price of broiler chicken is 398 rupees, while the retail price for live chicken is 412 rupees, and broiler meat is being sold at 595 rupees per kilogram. Eggs are priced at 317 rupees per dozen.
Meanwhile, in Islamabad’s surrounding areas, chicken meat was sold for as much as 730 rupees per kilogram. This price variation across the country reflects an increasing disparity in chicken prices in different cities.
