Six-Month Extension Granted to Supreme Court’s Constitutional Bench

Islamabad: The Supreme Court‘s Constitutional Bench has been granted a six-month extension.

According to sources, a meeting of the Judicial Commission was held to review the rules, during which the proposed rules were approved, with minor modifications made to some of them.

The condition of a medical test for new additional judges has been removed, and it will now be at the discretion of the commission whether to obtain an intelligence report for any candidate.

The final draft stipulates that three names will be considered for the position of Chief Justice of the High Court, and reasons must be provided if a senior judge is not appointed as Chief Justice. For Supreme Court judge appointments, five names will be forwarded from the High Court.

Furthermore, the Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court has been granted an additional six-month extension, and a second meeting has been scheduled to discuss the extension of the bench.
