Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Divisional Olympic Sports Committee hosted a special reception ceremony to honor two distinguished District Sports Officers (DSOs) of Sindh, Maryam Kerio of Hyderabad and Abdul Rahim Rajput of Shaheed Benazirabad. Both were recently recognized by the Sports and Youth Affairs Department, Government of Sindh, as the best DSOs based on their outstanding performances.
The event, held in Hyderabad, was graced by prominent figures including Ahmed Ali Rajput, Secretary General of the Sindh Olympic Association (SOA), Treasurer Asghar Baloch, and former KMC Deputy Director of Sports, Nadeem Khan. The ceremony also saw the participation of key sports figures such as SOA Associate Secretary Parwez Ahmed Shaikh, Executive Member Aisha Irum, and President of Hyderabad Olympic, Khurram Rafi Siddiqui, among others.
In his speech, Ahmed Ali Rajput praised Maryam Kerio, highlighting her exceptional achievements both as a player and as a District Sports Officer. Rajput noted that Kerio, a gold medalist at both national and international levels, is the only international athlete from Sindh to have represented Pakistan in various sports events. Since assuming her role as Hyderabad’s DSO, she has revitalized the local sports scene, organizing numerous sports competitions and encouraging greater participation across various disciplines.
Kerio’s efforts have been instrumental in bringing vibrancy back to Hyderabad’s sports fields, and attendees at the event encouraged her to continue expanding the range of sports offered, including baseball, tug of war, dodgeball, ring ball, and pencak silat. They expressed hope that Kerio’s dual experience as an international-level player and an official would benefit the broader sports community in Hyderabad.
Maryam Kerio, in her address, thanked everyone for their support and especially acknowledged the presence of Ahmed Ali Rajput, who traveled from Karachi to attend the event. She assured the attendees of her commitment to supporting and nurturing all sports in the region, stressing that the passion for sports in Hyderabad would continue to grow, producing more national and international athletes in the years to come.
To mark the occasion, Maryam Kerio was presented with shields by the Hyderabad Olympic Committee and the Sindh Olympic Association in recognition of her achievements. Additionally, she received the honorary shield for the 18th Sindh Games, which she accepted alongside Chief of Mission Pervaiz Ahmed Shaikh and Secretary Khurram Rafi Siddiqui. Due to Abdul Rahim Rajput’s participation in the Quaid-e-Azam Games, his shield was received on his behalf by Faizan Sheikh.
The ceremony celebrated the dedication and hard work of both Maryam Kerio and Abdul Rahim Rajput, reaffirming their vital contributions to the growth of sports in Sindh and Pakistan. The event was a clear testament to the power of sports in uniting communities and fostering local talent.
