Hamas Offers Ceasefire Proposal to Egypt for Gaza Conflict Resolution
Israel-(Special Correspondent/Webdesk): A senior Hamas official informed AFP on Thursday that the group had communicated to Egyptian authorities its willingness to halt hostilities in Gaza, contingent on Israel agreeing to a ceasefire.
The official stated that a Hamas delegation met with Egyptian officials in Cairo to discuss “ideas and proposals” for a Gaza ceasefire, explaining that “Hamas has shown readiness to end the fighting, but Israel must agree to a truce, withdraw from Gaza, facilitate the return of displaced residents, agree to a substantial prisoner exchange, and allow humanitarian aid access into Gaza.”
Meanwhile, the Israeli army reported that four of its soldiers were killed in southern Lebanon on Wednesday, where it has been engaged in ongoing conflict with Hezbollah forces for weeks. The military named the fallen soldiers in a statement, confirming they “died during combat in southern Lebanon.”
The number of Israeli soldiers killed in southern Lebanon has now reached 26 since ground operations began in late September, according to AFP’s tally based on official figures.
The conflict in Lebanon reignited last month, following nearly a year of intermittent clashes between Hezbollah and Israeli forces along the border. Hezbollah began firing rockets at Israel on October 8, 2023, in support of Hamas, after the Palestinian militant group launched an unprecedented attack on Israel.
