Alarming Near-Miss at Nashville Airport Raises Aviation Safety Concerns
A recent incident at Nashville International Airport has raised serious concerns about aviation safety after air traffic controllers inadvertently directed two aircraft to the same runway.
On September 12, an Alaska Airlines jet was given clearance for takeoff while a Southwest Airlines jet was instructed to cross the same runway.
Fortunately, the pilots of the Alaska flight were able to abort their takeoff in time, applying the brakes with such force that the tires deflated as intended.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is currently investigating the incident and has published a preliminary report detailing the sequence of events.
This report includes conversations between the pilots and air traffic controllers, as well as data extracted from the flight recorders of both planes. The Alaska Airlines flight carried 176 passengers, while the Southwest flight had 141, and thankfully, no injuries were reported.
This near-miss has sparked widespread concern regarding safety protocols in U.S. aviation, leading to ongoing discussions about the necessity for enhanced measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
