Turkish Airlines Pilot Dies During Flight, Forces Emergency Landing
Efforts to Save Veteran Pilot Unsuccessful After Mid-Air Collapse on Seattle-Istanbul Flight

A Turkish Airlines pilot tragically passed away after collapsing during a flight, leading to an emergency landing in New York, the airline confirmed on Wednesday.
The flight, which had taken off from Seattle on Tuesday evening, encountered the emergency mid-air, according to airline spokesperson Yahya Ustun, who made the announcement on X (formerly Twitter).
“Our pilot on flight TK204, an Airbus A350 traveling from Seattle to Istanbul, collapsed while in-flight,” Ustun shared.
Despite immediate first aid efforts by the crew, including the assistance of the co-pilot and another pilot, the decision was made to divert the plane for an emergency landing. Sadly, the pilot passed away before the aircraft could land.
The 59-year-old pilot, who had been with Turkish Airlines since 2007, had undergone a medical examination in March and showed no signs of any health concerns, the spokesperson added.
