Saudi Investment Minister Khalid Al-Falih Leads Delegation to Islamabad
A senior Saudi Arabian delegation, headed by Investment Minister Khalid bin Abdulaziz Al-Falih, is set to arrive in Islamabad today at 6 PM for a two-day visit focused on enhancing economic cooperation between the two countries.
There are reports suggesting that the delegation may arrive in Pakistan as early as tomorrow morning. Khalid bin Abdulaziz, who has previously served as the Minister of Energy and Health and was the former chairman of Aramco, is leading this delegation, which consists of high-ranking officials from various Saudi government departments and representatives from the private sector.
Upon arrival, the delegation will be greeted by senior officials and federal ministers, including Abdul Aleem Khan, Dr. Musadik Malik, and Jam Kamal. Sources indicate that key meetings are scheduled with Pakistan’s leadership, including discussions with the President and Prime Minister. There will also be a meeting between the investment ministers of both nations.
This visit is anticipated to yield several memorandums of understanding (MoUs) as the delegation includes representatives from sectors such as construction, engineering, information technology, financial services, agriculture, food, and petroleum.
Additionally, a business forum will be hosted in Islamabad, where Minister Al-Falih will address local business leaders to discuss potential collaboration opportunities between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. He is also expected to engage with leaders from Pakistan’s private sector.
To ensure a smooth arrival, the Interior Ministry has provided special protocols for the Saudi guests, including exemptions from customs clearance and other formalities. The delegation will have access to the State Lounge at Islamabad Airport, with immigration processes being waived upon their arrival and departure. Immigration authorities have been instructed not to document the delegation’s arrival and departure or take any photographs during the immigration process. These exemptions were requested by the Saudi embassy and approved by the Foreign Ministry.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently announced that Pakistan is poised to sign agreements worth approximately $2 billion with the visiting Saudi delegation later this month. This visit, scheduled from October 9 to 11, precedes the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit that Pakistan will host on October 15-16. The inclusion of representatives from both government and private sectors underscores the strengthening of economic ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
