PESHAWAR: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has released a report detailing its operations against terrorism threats in 2024.
The report highlights a proactive approach by the CTD, with 1433 intelligence-based operations conducted throughout the year. These efforts have yielded significant results, including the thwarting of 55 potential terrorist attacks.
Law enforcement operations have also resulted in the arrest of 322 terrorists and the elimination of 124 others. Notably, the CTD credits its work with preventing a major disaster in Peshawar by apprehending two suicide bombers.
Furthermore, the report details the dismantling of several militant groups, including the Mohsin Qadir Group, Betni Padakie Group, Tipu Gul Group, and Zarar Group. Significant progress was also made against the Sunta Group and the TTP Gandapur Group, with the CTD neutralizing their commanders and associates.
The report mentions the arrest of 14 individuals involved in the smuggling of explosives, disrupting potential supply chains for terrorist activities.
Additionally, financial pressure was applied by placing bounties on the heads of 18 terrorists. This strategy resulted in the capture of 10 most-wanted individuals, while 8 others were killed during operations.
Despite these successes, the report acknowledges the ongoing threat of terrorism. It states that 273 terrorist attacks have occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa this year, with 118 police personnel targeted.
