Committee Formed to Finalize Plans for PWD dissolution

Islamabad, The Pakistan Public Works Department (PWD) is facing closure after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ordered the formation of a committee to finalize a plan for its dissolution.
A notification issued on behalf of the Prime Minister’s Office announced the creation of a five-member committee tasked with finalizing the PWD closure plan. The committee will be chaired by the Federal Minister of Housing and will include the Deputy Chairman of Planning, Secretary of Establishment, Secretary of Power, and the Secretary of Housing as members.
The committee is mandated to submit a final plan to the Prime Minister within two weeks. This plan will encompass not only the closure of the PWD but also the development of alternative solutions for its employees, human resources department, and ongoing projects.

The decision to close the PWD comes amidst government efforts to reduce expenditures and streamline operations. The department, established in 1854, has been criticized for alleged inefficiencies and corruption. However, the closure plan has also sparked protests from PWD employees who are concerned about their job security.
