Govt Identifies Officials Responsible for Surplus Wheat Import Scandal

PM Shehbaz approved the recommendations of the inquiry committee.

Islamabad: In a significant development during the caretaker government, the authorities have identified the officials responsible for the surplus wheat import scandal.

According to detailed reports, the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved the recommendations of the inquiry committee. Based on these recommendations, four officers from the Federal Ministry of National Food Security have been suspended.

Former Federal Secretary of National Food Security, Muhammad Asif, is set to face formal action. Additionally, the suspension of former Director General of Plant Protection, A.D. Abid, has also been approved.

Sources indicate that Food Security Commissioner One, Dr. Waseem, and Director Sohail have also been suspended. The accused officials have been charged with poor planning and negligence.

It is noteworthy that the import of surplus wheat led to a market crash, forcing farmers to sell their wheat at low prices. This action aims to address the grievances of the farmers and ensure accountability within the Ministry of National Food Security.
