Crackdown on Gas Theft Results in Disconnection of Thousands of Connections and Heavy Fines

In Lahore, the regional team disconnected 21 connections for the illegal use of gas and lodged 3 FIRs against gas thieves.

Lahore:  In a relentless effort to curb gas theft, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has intensified its crackdown across Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), and Islamabad, resulting in the disconnection of 2,436 illegal connections and the imposition of fines totaling Rs 28.73 million.

The crackdown, spearheaded by SNGPL, targeted areas notorious for gas pilferage, including Lahore, Multan, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Karak, Bahawalpur, Mardan, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sheikhupura, and Gujrat.

In Lahore, the regional team disconnected 21 connections for the illegal use of gas and lodged 3 FIRs against gas thieves. Meanwhile, in Multan, 844 connections were disconnected due to unauthorized gas usage, with an additional 943 connections shut down for the use of compressors. A total of 31 FIRs were filed against gas thieves in Multan, accompanied by a fine of Rs 6.08 million.

Similarly, the crackdown in other regions yielded significant results. In Peshawar and Karak, 69 connections were disconnected for direct gas usage, while a fine of Rs 2.25 million was imposed on gas theft cases. In Bahawalpur and Mardan, illegal gas users faced disconnection of 11 and 12 connections, respectively, with fines amounting to Rs 0.43 million.

The efforts extended to Sargodha, where 79 connections were disconnected for unauthorized gas consumption, and a fine of Rs 1.41 million was imposed. Additionally, in Faisalabad and Gujranwala, illegal gas users faced consequences with 2 and 8 connections disconnected, respectively, accompanied by fines totaling Rs 0.64 million.

In Sheikhupura, a whopping 318 connections were disconnected for illegal gas usage, along with 114 connections for compressor use. Furthermore, 18 FIRs were lodged against gas thieves, resulting in a fine of Rs 17.91 million. In Gujrat, 6 connections were disconnected, and a fine of Rs 4,000 was imposed for gas theft cases.
