34 countries of Asia Pacific agree to move Emergency resolution in the forthcoming IPU Conference in Rwanda to highlight the plight of flood affected people of Pakistan says NA Speaker

NA Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf  has termed the move of National Assembly of Pakistan a resounding success to make members of  Asia-pacific region agree  for presenting an emergency resolution at the forthcoming IPU General Assembly in Rwanda . This resolution would highlight the plight of the flood-affected people of Pakistan and the consequences of climate degradation on vulnerable economies of developing countries.

The Speaker Expressed these views while addressing to concluding session of 3rd IPU Seminar jointly organized by National Assembly of Pakistan and IPU.

The speaker added that “Unwavering solidarity that all participating countries have expressed in support of the resilient people of Pakistan stands tall in an exemplary and united effort to face the devastation caused by the recent floods.”

Furthermore Global Climate Change has become a menace and existential threat to this planet and for up-coming generations.

He also stressed, “Parliamentarians have the Constitutional role and responsibility to play an important role in supporting and overseeing the implementation of SDGs. The Speaker also claimed that uncompromising resolve to implement the SDGs Gnational plan would make this planet more livable, prosperous and safer place for future generations.

According to the source, Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf has extended felicitation to all participants for successful organization of 3rd IPU Regional Seminar for the Asia Pacific Region Parliaments on Achieving SDGs.

He also expressed his gratitude to the President of the IPU Mr. Duarte Pacheco and the entire IPU staff for their continuous and close cooperation with the National Assembly of Pakistan.

Convener SDGs MNA Ms.Romina Khursheed Alam also draws the attention of participants towards devastating floods that have affected one-third of the country and have impacted over 33 million people. The flood’s preliminary economic damage estimates exceed $10 billion. Food insecurity and malnutrition were already at critical levels in areas severely impacted by the floods.

Pakistan has only contributed 0.4% of global CO2 emissions since 1954, but it is paying a heavy price for climate change.

She also requested the Speaker National Assembly to move an emergency item at the forthcoming IPU General Assembly in Rwanda to highlight the plight of the flood affected people of Pakistan and the consequences of climate degradation.
